The vultures step in and devour you. If however you are an elephant the matriarch guards over you. In similar fashion Ama Wheelies we have a story to tell.

2011 has been a difficult first year for Ama Wheelies. A year ago we moved to the Lydenburg cottage and on 27 November 2010 doors opened for the first Quadriplegic home in Mpumalanga! We arrived at a cottage wild and unattended; we cleaned, built ramps and made it a home.

The Lydenburg community welcomed Ama Wheelies at our golf day 14 May. The spring walk 1 September created further awareness but funding remains low. Assistance was there in the form of computers from Vodacom for our training room. Eastern Chrome pledged towards developing our farm and at the same time we had no support from any governmental institution.

Battling on our own we are trying to earn a living fattening pigs, rearing chickens and growing vegetables. Our produce we grow will soon sustain us but it is not yet providing us an income.

Writing to thank the family and friends that have been assisting us we extended the urgent appeal for financial help: would we be trodden down or could we still believe in humanity!

Our letters we wrote telling all we need help just like those anxious calls of the small elephant calling for help and as in a family of Elephants we found loving guardians in a harsh world. Cleaning Africa Thuŝanang with Mr Midge Wood a dear friend depositing a huge deposit and the goodness continued Tubatse mine, Dhl and several private individuals opened their pockets donating R20 000.00 collectively assuring the survival of Ama Wheelies at least for the next two months.

The story of the baby elephant requires the baby to feed from the mother and start eating on its own. Ama wheelies made new applications with the government department and we look to 2012 with new confidence and apart from government assistance requests we have set up our fax2email campaign and the exciting dance Ama Wheelies will be hosting in 11 February in South Africa’s town of love!

Soon you will be invited with more information but in the same way the little elephant must be taken care of we share this link with our friends, family, and anyone who can continue to help Ama Wheelies to raise money to keep the home floating.

A year ago a few very brave members of Team Ama Wheelies moved to the Lydenburg cottage and on 27 November 2010 doors opened for the first Quadriplegic home in Mpumalanga! We arrived at a cottage wild and unattended; we cleaned, built ramps and made it a home.

The Lydenburg community welcomed Ama Wheelies at our golf day 14 May. The spring walk 1 September created further awareness but funding remained low. Assistance was there in the form of computers from Vodacom for our training room. Eastern Chrome pledged towards developing our farm and at the same time we had no support from any governmental institutions.

Battling on our own we are trying to earn a living fattening pigs, rearing chickens and growing vegetables. Our produce we grow on a small scale due to land size limitations will soon sustain us but it does not yet provide us an income. We regularly thank the family and friends that have been assisting us for the last few years with donations and support, without them we would not be were we are today.

Sadly though, family and friends can only do so much. To make matters worse, promises made by government officials have not materialized, the fact is Ama Wheelies is being overlooked and neglected by local government and we are now forced to write an urgent appeal to anyone who can help Ama Wheelies financially.

People always say “Why did you not ask?” This letter we write to publicly ask for help. At Ama Wheelies we need help and we ask you to please help in any way. Even if this means tweeting about about this article or sharing it on facebook. We appreciate any help we can get and donations will be acknowledged with a receipt. You may also remain anonymous if you so wish.

Not only is our cause worthy but in addition we are situated in RURAL Mpumalanga, serving DISADVANTAGED poor and DISABLED individuals enabling any donor to qualify for BEE and tax rebate. Our paperwork and record keeping is in order. Ama Wheelies is a section 21 non-profit organization (2008/021003/08) with our NPO number 083-504

Any help or support will be much appreciated. Thank you in advances.

Team Ama Wheelies.

Ama Wheelies is excited to announce that our very special lady Jeanette Kruger-Hibbins, has made the list as one of only 18 finalists in this years Mrs United Nations competition.

“Mrs United Nations is designed for “real” women with a passion to bring value to people’s lives. The main purpose of this competition is to showcase the women of South Africa. Specifically, to show that they can simultaneously manage a family, have a career, support their community, and have a successful marriage. Mrs United Nations SA is a woman who can do it all with elegance and grace!”

In our humble opinion, Jeanette Kruger-Hibbins of Lydenburg, more than fits this role. On more than one occasion Jeanette has gone above and beyond to help the boys and girls of Ama Wheelies. Jeanette truly is a special person!

Preliminary judging of finalists will take place 26-27 August 2011 in Gauteng! The top three delegates will then be selected and one special lady will walk away with the prestigious title of Mrs United Nations 2012.

Congratulations on being a finalist Jeanette, we can’t wait to see you crowned as winner of Mrs United Nations 2011/2012.
